Top Rated Designer Mens Sunglasses

Here are some designer mens sunglasses that consumers rate at least 4 stars at Amazon.com.

Maui Jim Classic Sunglasses - Hoku - Gloss Black Frame w/Neutral Grey Lens - 106-02

"My husband purchased these glasses and absolutely loves them. He says the lenses do a fantastic job of filtering glare and enhancing natural colors, while I think they are very stylish and modern.

They are also made very well and if anything that is the only negative in that they have a mildly heavy feel to them compared to other models. But with the wrap-around protection and awesome poly-lenses these sunglasses are among the best."

Oakley Men's Nanowire 4.0 Iridium Polarized Sunglasses

"I have about a dozen pairs of Oakley sunglasses, but these are my favorite. I love how light these sunglasses are, they look great, and I like polarized lenses. You're not going to find them any less expensive anywhere either. "

"Worth the price I got in for on Amazon.com. Light yet strong and comfortable to wear."

Oliver Peoples Victory Square Aviator Sunglasses 58 Large Burn Notice

"They are light, durable, and the VFX Photochromic lenses are absolutely amazing. They are pricey but worth it. If you want something very functional that at the same time looks awesome these are the way to go. The lenses are extremely resistant to scratching, unless of course you are sanding metal with them on (learned that the hard way, but replacement lenses are very reasonably priced)."

"The show Burn Notice introduced me to these glasses and I wanted them for about a year. This retailer had by far the best price I could find and they came very quickly. The hinges are high quality. The nose and ear pieces are also well made and comfortable. The glasses are not inexpensive, but they are well worth the price. The lenses have a watermark on them, so you know the glasses are authentic. I am more than happy with my purchase. "

Christian Dior Diorito 1 color PECVK Sunglasses

"there are beautiful , I order for my wife, and she love them , best product and great design . not cheap but very cool. "

Ferrari Mens FR0048SW67D Sunglasses

"I was quite reluctant to order sunglasses online because I'm hard to fit. These are great - high quality, good lenses, prompt delivery."

John Varvatos Mens V739 Sunglasses

"Great pair of shades. I picked these up and they are my new goto fashion accessory. Got tired of other deigner pairs that looked "ok" but still let in to much light and glare - these actaully WORK as sunglasses and look bad [...]! Plus the ladies dig 'em ;) "

Costa Del Mar Harpoon 580 Glass Mirror Lens Sunglasses

"I gave these to my husband. He had wanted a pair for about a year, but the price point was high. They are expensive, but evidently are worth it. The quality is outstanding. I gave them as an anniversary gift (to justify the expense). He loves them, and I can see why. The clarity is unbelievable. "

Chanel 4176 color 2963B Sunglasses

"My wife loved it, has a beautiful color design also CHANEL brand means high quality."

Prada SPR50L color 1BC3M1 Sunglasses

"I've tried many sunglasses before I buy this one, good shape, great design. Very happy... Also the price is much cheapest than Hong Kong !!! "

Ray Ban RB 8302 Sunglasses Rayban RB8302 Gunmetal Polarized 004/N8

"They're not the cheapest but you definitely get what you pay for. I've had Oakleys in the past and they're good but these RayBans just blow them out of the water.   Lightweight, great quality and highly recommended."

ED HARDY EHS 020 SKULL BUTTERFLIES BROWN RIMLESS METAL SWAROSKI SUNGLASSES

"Simply beautiful, great quality. I loved the metal roses and the case is just goregous. I received a lot of complements on those sunglasses."

ED HARDY EHS 023 ZEKE BLACK RIMLESS SWAROSKI SHIELD SUNGLASSES

"I purschased these glasses and get compliments everywhere I go. They are really sharp, comfortable, and super sexy on! I would definitely recommend buying a pair as a gift or for yourself!!!!!! "

MAUI JIM SHAKA 105 H105-26 CHESTNUT PLASTIC HCL BRONZE POLARIZED SUNGLASSES SHADES

"just as described on the site. what worked for me was the site recommends sunglases according to your face size and shape. otherwise i would not have bought sunglasses online. the fit is great, i got the brown but would like the blue and the black at some point. now that i know about their site. i will return in the future."

5 Star Rated Mens Sunglasses

Here are some popular mens sunglasses that consumers rate 5 Stars.

Bolle Sport Anaconda Sunglasses (Dark Tortoise/Polarized Axis)

"I've owned many pairs of more expensive sunglasses, but these are probably my favorites. Why pay $100 (Ray Bans, etc.), $200 (Oakley, etc.), or even $300 (Maui Jim, etc.) when you can get a really great looking, polarized pair like this? Looks good on a larger face, too! I've had many compliments on them. Nice soft case is included. You can't go wrong."

"I really love these sunglasses. They were shipped quickly and matched the description. I got the for $59 (saw the same ones in the store for $90). They are good quality shades and come in a nice sunglasses case, I would recommend these to anyone. "

Bolle Fusion Limit Sunglasses, Shiny Gun/TNS

"its an excellent product - very sturdy, yet fashionable. The tint is not too dark. It fits my face perfectly. I am very pleased and would recommend it. "

"These glasses are some of the best fitting/looking I've ever owned. They wrap around the side of your face and cover all of your peripheral vision, keeping light out from all directions. They have very solid build quality, include a quality carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth. The design is sleek and attractive, and the glasses are very light and durable. "

Oakley Men's Flak Jacket XLJ Polarized Sunglasses

"This is my third pair of Oakley sunglasses. Previously I had two pair of Minute 1.0 shades. The two pair had combined to last 10 years total with minor repairs. My lenses were getting scratched and it was time for new rubbers so I set on getting a new pair.  For those not intimately familiar with Oakley, they put out an outstanding product for the discerning consumer. If you are tired of $15 sunglasses that break at the slightest flex, or fed up with poor lens quality that gives you headaches at the end of a long day outside, then Oakley is for you."

Serengeti Vedi Drivers Polarized Sunglasses (Sport Classic)

"These are the finest sunglasses in the world. I expect nothing less from my brothers and sisters in Italy. I recommend them for anyone that wants to truly experience the beauty of the world. It's like having a set of bionic eyes. So comfortable you don't even know they're on your face. Also quite stylish in my opinion."

"These sunglasses are just what I've been looking for. I was actually a little skeptical that they would be dark enough; however, they really are effective in all light situations. The styling is wonderful and they are so comfortable that you won't notice them. The nose pad is even "no-slip." Very, very happy!"

Oakley Men's Nanowire 2.0 Iridium Polarized Sunglasses

"I have about a dozen pairs of Oakley sunglasses, but these are my favorite. I love how light these sunglasses are, they look great, and I like polarized lenses. You're not going to find them any less expensive anywhere either."

"Worth the price I got in for on Amazon.com. Light yet strong and comfortable to wear. "

Serengeti Velocity Drivers Gradient Sunglasses (Aviator)

"I am very impressed with the performance of the Serengeti Velocity Drivers. I have worn nothing else for the last 10 years and have found no reason to switch."

"It's been a few years since I've owned a really good pair of sunglasses. After losing a pair of Carerra's in Miami around 2003, I've made do with some off-the-rack sunglasses from the local drugstores. Until I tried on these Serengetis, I had forgotten what quality sunglasses are all about. Not only are they comfortable to wear, but they do not distort ones vision which leads to eyestrain and headaches."

Serfas Sike-Out Sunglasses

"love them love them love love love them! They fit great, I can wear them all day without getting a headache or hurting my nose, I never bother to swap out the lens but I can see that coming in handy. They even look good on me!"

"I got the silver framed variant of these glasses for bicycling. They look and fit great. The changeable lenses are very nice, easy to change. I use the clear lenses when it's not bright but I still want eye protection. I haven't had any fogging with these. They fit fine while wearing a helmet. "

Serengeti Verona Sunglasses - Polarized

"These, as other Serengeti sunglasses are beautiful, well made and great for driving. I have big head (hehehe) and they fit great, they don't fell thight. Great sun protection and polarized, amazing style too! "

"I own a number of pairs of Oakley and Bolle sunglasses, both regular and polarized, but this was my first pair of Serengeti sunglasses. They are wonderful.  The visual sharpness and color enhancement is better than on any other pair of sunglasses which I own. With most glasses there is a slight amount of image "bend" which you can see when you flip the glasses quickly into and out of your line-of-sight, but with these there appears to be none. Highly recommended optics!"

TOP RATED SPORT AND OUTDOOR MEN'S SUNGLASSES

Bolle Sport Anaconda Sunglasses Dark Tortoise/Polarized Axis)

"These polarized sunglasses are not only functional, they are attractive and comfortable. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a pair of polarized sunglasses."

"I really love these sunglasses. They were shipped quickly and matched the description. I got the for $59 (saw the same ones in the store for $90). They are good quality shades and come in a nice sunglasses case, I would recommend these to anyone. "

"GREAT PURCHASE! They fit me like a glove and I think have found the perfect pair of sunglasses for me. I think I will end up buying another pair just to have as a backup! After about two weeks of wearing them I am still a very big fan. "

X-Loop Polarized Aviator P27 Sunglasses
5 reviews average 4+ stars

"I gotta say these are nice shades. I was worried about buying this kind of product online, but at the end of the day I was very impressed. Firm, sturdy frames hold these bad boys to my face while I do insane things while wearing them. "

"These sunglasses are awesome. I bought a pair from a vendor in Venice Beach that I lost, and these are exactly like them in appearance, but much lighter and of better construction. They arrived extremely quickly in perfect condition with a bunch of accessories that were not expected but greatly appreciated. They fit wonderfully and I will certainly buy another pair if I lose these."

JiMarti Polarized Sunglasses for Fishing, Cycling, Golf, Kayaking Superlight Tr90 Frame JMP44
15 reviews average 4+ stars

"I bought these for cycling, running and motorcycle riding...but I found I tend to wear them all the time. They're even great for driving through rain storms (don't ask my how, but they are great in semi-dark conditions). If you're looking for something darkly tinted, keep looking...but even my sensitive eyes appreciate what these lil guys do. Highly recommend."

"I ordered the polarized sunglasses based upon reviews I had read in Amazon and I was very happy with the product. I did a 10 mile run the day after I received them in the mail and they were superb. I definitely recommend them and will probably buy another pair. Good price for a quality product! It helped that the eyewear came with a cleaning cloth and a case."

Oakley Men's Half Jacket Iridium Sunglasses
16 reviews average 4 stars

"My husband really loves these Oakleys and he had to have a pair because my son has them. They fit very well and make him feel cool. They came with the black pouch to keep them from getting scratched when they are in your glove compartment."

"I have tried many different brands and types of sunglasses and none of them compare to these. The absolute clarity of the lens alone makes them worthwhile. But then add in that they are lightweight, stylish, have 100% UVA/UVB/UVC protection, and the fact that they don't slide off your face and the price becomes well worth it - especially when compared to other sunglasses similarly priced."

Bolle Sport Fang Sunglasses (Dark Tortoise/TNS)
4 reviews average 5 stars

"
I wear these sunglasses driving, sailing, sunbathing, power walking, and doing just about anything else I care to do on a sunny day. They don't slip when you sweat, thanks to non-slip rubber ridges at the nose pieces, and they wrap around your head gently but firmly so they don't fall off if you move your head quickly in any direction--even down! The lenses also don't seem to scratch as easily as some other brands, (Oakley, ahem) which is nice. I highly recommend them..."

"im somewhat particular about sunglasses, they have to be light weight and comfortable, these are both."

JiMarti V8 Polarized Sunglasses for Golf, Fishing, Cycling
24 reviews average 4 stars

"I purchased the silver and orange glasses and they are an excellent deal for only $40.00. I use them primarily for running and they don't bounce around at all. When you receive the glasses in the mail you are also given a mesh case and cloth bag. Considering I only paid $40 I got much more than I was expecting. This is an awesome product."

"I bought these sunglasses because I needed a sports-oriented pair with UV protection and polarization. These glasses have all those features and look very chic (I got the Silver and Orange pair). I have a fairly thin face and have had problems in the past with glasses wiggling around while running and biking. These glasses were a perfect fit and I highly recommend them for any outdoor athlete who needs more tightly-fitting sunglasses."

X-Loop Polarized Aviator P10 Sunglasses
4 reviews average 5 stars

"I ordered 4 pairs of sunglasses (all under $25) through Amazon the day after I had $260 pair of Revo's stolen from our car. These were hands down the best. The lenses are very close to the Revo's on this model. Unlike the others, these are "polarized" as advertised. I also purchase another pair that claimed to have Revo lenses but they were toys...my 11 year old thought they were junk too. The frames are sturdy enough and these fit well on my rather huge dome...the lenses are a bit too small ,but manageable, for my head but probably great for others. I'd order again and recommend."

"Its polarized and its as good as the expensive ones and its cheap. "

Bolle Sport Recoil Sunglasses (Shiny Black/Polarized TNS)
18 reviews average 4+ stars

"Great glasses! I bought these for my husband and he loves them. They are a true wrap around design so they keep the wind out of his eyes. They're made for a larger face...something that seems to be hard to find these days. Can't beat Bolle's polarization, either. We definitely recommend these sunglasses! "

"These are by far the best shades Ive owned. I have sensitive eyes and the cheap shades give me headaches. These polarized lenses are uber. I tried em on at the local mall($100) came home and ordered here at Amazon($54). If/when I drop, lose or sit on these I will be buying another pair for sure. Nice case for em too! "

Serengeti Vedi Drivers Polarized Sunglasses (Sport Classic)
4 reviews average 5 stars

"I never imagined spending $100 on some sunglasses. After all aren't all sunglasses equal? The answer is no.

These glasses are great. The lenses act as a transition lens that can adjust to lighting conditions making them usable in a variety of lighting conditions (aka photochromatic lens). The shade color is perfect. Glare is drastically reduced, colors appear warmer, object become more visible, and contrast is greatly increased. The lenses filter out dangerous UV light, are polarized to reduce glare and the mirror effect received from reflected light off shiny surfaces, and have an anti-glare coating on the back of the lens to reduce reflections on the inside of the lens. "

Serengeti Velocity Drivers Gradient Sunglasses (Aviator)
5 reviews average 5 stars

"Exactly as I expected. The fit, finish, and lens quality sets the standard. As an airline pilot, the non-polarized gradient lens allows clear visibility inside and excellent shading."

"I am very impressed with the performance of the Serengeti Velocity Drivers. I have worn nothing else for the last 10 years and have found no reason to switch."

"Until I tried on these Serengetis, I had forgotten what quality sunglasses are all about."

JiMarti XS Sport Wrap TR90 Sunglasses UV400 Unbreakable Protection for Cycling, Ski or Golf
12 reviews average 4 stars

"I bought these because I run and my regular sunglasses would steam up and I'd have to remove them, if I wanted to see. I have a very narrow face and it's difficult for me to find glasses that fit my face. These work wonderfully. They are very light and even though the really cold weather has passed they see to be what I need."

"Wore these sunglasses on a five-hour bike ride and they performed perfectly. They're comfortable, lightweight and stylish. The "Smoke" lens color is the perfect shade and contrast for all-day riding -- dark enough for full sunshine yet suited for shady conditions as well. I didn't experience any fogging of the lenses, and the upper rim is high enough to allow ample visibility even when riding aero. In summary, great sunglasses for a great price. I'm ordering another pair just to have around in case I lose these."

Oakley Men's Flak Jacket Iridium Golf Sunglasses
5 reviews average 4 stars

"Super sunglasses. Great clarity, fit, and style. Paid $80.00 when they retail for $140.00. Great seller through Amazon."

"Great glasses! My son wanted these for xmas. I was a little skeptical because the price was so good but they are authentic oakleys. Came with a soft case and hard case too. He loves them and you can't beat the price. "

"I only wish I had gotten the multi=lens array set. For the price, these are awesome. Made in USA!!!! "

JiMarti The Original Silver GREENREADER Golf & Shooting Enhancement Eyewear with Case
4 reviews average 4 stars

"Used for golf.  Great light enhancing, When looking at the ball the len's do not change the focus as do some other sun glasses. "

"THESE SUNGLASSES ARE GREAT. THEY CAN BE USED UP UNTIL IT'S PITCH DARK. THE SAME EFFECT AS "BLUE BLOCKERS" WITH NO-GLARE ALSO. I LIKE THE WRAP AROUND LENS, REALLY KEEPS OUT THE UV RAYS."

MATCHING FACE SHAPE AND COLOR TO MEN'S SUNGLASSES

The challenge in choosing mens sunglasses is that there is a dizzying array of styles, colors, shapes and compositions of both lenses and frames. So do you think it might make sense to start at a place where you have no choice? The shape of your face - round, square, heart-shaped or oval - determines which shape of men's sunglasses looks best on you.

Men with a round face are more likely to look better in sunglasses that have a rectangular or square shaped frames. A round face has curved lines with the width and length in the same proportions and no angles. Adding an element of squareness draws attention away from the fullness of the face and helps to add definition. Or try angular, narrow frames to make the face look longer.

Guys with the square jawed face of a super hero can use a softening touch. Frames that are round or oval in shape, anything with curves, and frames that have more width than depth are the best at this.

Some men have a heart - a heart shaped face, that is. This is a face with high, broad foreheads and a narrow jaw line. It stands to reason that rimless frames, wire frames and frames with very light colors tend to add less attention to the forehead area.

Fellows with a narrow forehead and wider jaw have a base-down triangle face. Frames that are heavier shaped and darker in color on the top half tend to add with to the top third of the face.

Guys with a diamond shaped face are narrow at both the eye line and the jaw line, usually with broad cheekbones that may be high and dramatic. Try frames that have distinctive brow lines.

Men with an oval shaped face can wear almost any style frame! Look for sunglass frames that are as wide as the broadest part of the face, or walnut-shaped frames that are not too deep or narrow.

The Vision Council advises that skin tone as well as hair and eye color need to be considered in choosing the best looking frame and lens colors.

Skin tone is the primary element in determining coloring. Most of the United States has a cool complexion with blue or pink undertones. Less common is a warm complexion with a peaches and cream or yellow cast.

Eye colors are usually secondary in determining coloring because there are so many variations of eye color.

Hair colors considered cool are strawberry blond, platinum, blue-black, white, salt-pepper, and light brown. Warm hair colors are golden blond, black, brownish gold, carrot and gray.

Frame colors best for cool men are: camel, khaki, gold, copper, peach, orange, coral, off-white, fiery red, and warm blue. Warm people look better in frames that are black, brown, blue-gray, plum, pink, jade, blue and darker tortoise.

Ultimately, there is no substitute for trying on mens sunglasses to really see how the style, shape and size compliments or detracts from your facial features.

CHOOSING MENS SUNGLASSES

Consider this checklist when buying your next pair of men's sunglasses. Later posts will look at each of these factors in more detail.

Lifestyle - Are the sunglasses a trendy fashion accessory or are they a required eye protection for sport or work? If the latter, the actual lens and frame materials as well as the lens design and frame constructions will carry more weight in your decision.

Everyman's choice? - The obvious choice for those without a budget constraint is to own two or three pair of sunglasses to fit the occasion. The styles - retro, aviator, driving, sport, wraparound, metal or plastic frame - are numerous. Better to buy two pair that perform their function well rather than compromise on one pair that doesn't really fill your needs.

Safety - Safety is a primary consideration even for fashion shades. The lens composition, color and coating must protect your eyes from the sun's harmful rays. The lens contour, size and composition determines if protection is adequate from flying bugs on a motorcycle or errant projectiles at work.

Clip-ons or Prescription - Clip-ons not only add light protection to an ordinary pair of prescription eyeglasses, they can actually be a glitzy fashion accessory. Clip-ons with shatterproof lenses can provide safety although they likely aren't approved workplace wear. Clip-ons are generally cheaper than a stand-alone pair of sunglasses.

Mug Shots - Don't be caught getting your photograph taken with the wrong style of sunglasses for the shape of your face. Square jawed hero types might consider round or oval frames to soften facial features. Dough boys should choose sunglasses with square or angular frames.

Quality - Yes, it's true. The buyer usually gets what he pays for. But recognize that designer brands can cost more than twice as much just for the name recognition. On the other hand, knock-offs might not be as well made as a well known cheaper brand. Do your homework.

Fit and Comfort - This important feature cannot be researched over the internet. It is really best to try on the sunglasses you want to purchase. They should fit snugly without chafing or undue pressure. While you have them on, look in the mirror and get a second opinion from a salesperson or a friend. Once you have made a choice, then you can decide where to buy.

Price - If you feel like a millionaire paying $ 300 for a $ 150 pair of glasses, do it! There might also be a men's sunglasses supplier that is willing to sell that same pair for $ 120 and free shipping. Just know the reputation of the seller. Outlets will be explored in an upcoming post.
